Yukaina Breaks Record on Debut
Thursday, 08 Jan 2026
Yukaina announced himself as an exciting young talent with a stunning debut performance, breaking the track record at Colac over 1200 metres.
From barrier 1, Yukaina left the gates well and was able to control the tempo of the race from the front. Guided by Dean Yendall, the exciting youngster improved from the 400m and broke the hearts of his opposition with a dazzling turn of foot from the 400m, eventually winning eased down by 4.25 lengths – and a further 4.25 lengths back to 3rd.
Remarkably, Yukaina was purchased for just $30,000, a figure that now looks exceptional value given his debut performance. Yukaina is another example of Mitch Freedman Racing’s ability to identify quality horses at affordable prices, providing outstanding opportunities for owners at all levels.
Freedman paid credit to Mark Hoare, who unfortunately is no longer with us for sourcing Yukaina from the Adelaide Magic Millions. “(Mark) found him and steered him my way. This is one of the last horses we will have with Mark and his owners, he has always been great to work with and it was a great thrill to see this horse win today.”
Yukaina is another standout from a promising crop of three-year-olds coming through the stable. Congratulations to all involved and we cannot wait to see this horse continue to improve into the future.
