Skybird returned to winning form at Flemington on Saturday, taking out the Group 2 Gilgai Stakes over 1200 metres with Ben Melham aboard.

Ben Melham executed the race very well in the early stages, able to follow the right horses and navigate a path through the field, before unleashing her devastating turn of foot to add the third Group 2 of her career.

The win ends a 19 month wait for the Exosphere mare, whose last victory came in the Group 1 Lightning Stakes at Flemington in February 2025. Mitch said the team was "thrilled to get back in the winners' circle" with her after a run of hard luck since.

The Champions Sprint on the final day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival is the aim from here, with a trip to Sydney or a run on Cox Plate Day among the options in between.

Congratulations to all connections.
